Deirdre McMenamin is is currently carrying out a PhD at the Ulster University about interpretations and representations of vernacular environments and their relationship to landscape. She graduated in architecture from the Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton Street in 1998, and has worked with MacGabhann Architects in Donegal, with Building Initiative Research Group in Belfast/ Berlin, as curator and exhibition designer for Red Lead Arts Belfast, and as tutor at Queen’s University, Belfast. She co-founded LiD Architecture in 2003.The practice has received numerous awards including the RIAI Research Award in 2012 and 2016, Best Extension 2012 and, most recently, Sustainability Award 2018 (Building of the Year Awards).

 

Dougal Sheridan studied architecture at Queensland University Australia, TU Berlin, and the HDK, Berlin. He has practised in Australia, Germany and Ireland before co-founding LiD Architecture in 2003. He has worked extensively in architectural education, including co-ordinating the Masters level Urban Design and Housing Studio as a Lecturer at the Ulster University, Belfast. His research publications span the related fields of Informal Urbanism, Urban Wildscapes, Vernacular Landscape Strategies and Participatory Housing and Design Strategies. Dougal is External Examiner to Sligo Institute of Technology, Visiting Fellow at Queensland University, Australia, and a guest critic at CCAE, DIT, UCD, QU the Dessau International Architecture Graduate School [DIA].His practice, LiD Architecture are involved in developing best practice in Housing including methods of participatory design and public engagement as detailed in his 2014 book, ‘Translating Housing’.
