The monastery of St. Joachim Osogovski is located in the north-eastern
part of Macedonia, near the town of Kriva Palanka. It is about 100 km.
from the country's capital, Skopje.
It is situated on the slopes of the Osogovo mountain in a scenic landscape
overlooking the valley of the Kriva Reka.
The monastery was founded in the 12th century, but the existing buildings
date from later periods. The main church is devoted to St. Joachim
Osogovski and was built in the mid-19th century by the most famous
Macedonian master-builder of the time, Andrej Damjanov. The oldest
building in the complex is the small church of the Holy Virgin built in
the 14th century.
